Our Story
About King Boat Docks
A family business built on craftsmanship, integrity, and a deep love for Smith Lake.
Our History
King Boat Docks has been a cornerstone of the Smith Lake community since the mid-1980s, when founder Mr. King first began building docks on the lake. His commitment to quality and craftsmanship quickly earned a reputation that stood the test of time.
In 2019, Jim and Jennifer Yancy took over the business, carrying forward Mr. King's legacy while bringing their own passion for the lake and its community. Under their ownership, King Boat Docks has continued to grow, innovate, and serve the families of Smith Lake with the same dedication to excellence that defined the company from day one.
Today, King Boat Docks is known as the "Home of the Triple Decker" — a testament to the company's ability to build docks of any size and complexity, from simple boat slips to spectacular multi-story structures that are the envy of the lake.

Construction & Quality
Every King dock is constructed using 100% hot-dipped galvanized steel — what we consider the absolute best material for the lake environment. This isn't a shortcut or a compromise; it's a deliberate choice that ensures your dock will stand strong for decades. Our docks have a proven track record of lasting a lifetime.

Custom Materials
We can build it! Your dock size is only limited by Alabama Power's permitted guidelines for your particular lake lot. Whether you need a simple single-slip boat house or a sprawling double-decker triple-slip dock with all the amenities, we have the expertise and equipment to make it happen. Every project is custom-designed to fit your waterfront and your lifestyle.
15-Year Warranty
Every structure we build comes with a 15-year warranty. We stand behind our work because we know the quality of materials and craftsmanship that goes into every dock.
Long-Term Relationships
We don't just build your dock and walk away. King Boat Docks emphasizes long-term relationships with our clients, offering ongoing service and support long after the initial sale.

Maintenance & Care
While our docks are built to last, proper maintenance ensures they reach their full lifespan. Owners are responsible for inspecting their docks at least once a year for rust spots. This simple annual check is the key to maintaining your investment.
We provide guidance and assistance to all our customers on how to perform proper maintenance. If you ever have questions or need help, we're just a phone call away. That's the King Boat Docks difference — we're here for you, year after year.
Community Involvement
King Boat Docks is deeply committed to the Smith Lake community. We actively support local charities focused on lake rescue and recovery services — resources that help families in their most difficult times.
As Jim and Jennifer Yancy explain, because Smith Lake is exceptionally large and deep, these rescue and recovery resources are essential. The company supports these services to ensure that families of accident victims can receive the help and closure they need.
"You never know when we might need it. We believe in helping where you can to ensure these resources are available for everyone on the lake."
